Available Skills Bootcamps in Calderdale
The Calderdale Skills Bootcamps programme is delivered by Calderdale College and is funded by Calderdale Council through West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) through the UK Government’s Skills Bootcamps programme. Calderdale College is currently operating four Skills Bootcamps in the Calderdale area. See below for more details.
This Skills Bootcamp provides a comprehensive introduction to various construction trades, equipping participants with essential, hands-on skills. By gaining practical experience across multiple trades, learners enhance their versatility and employability in the construction industry. This course helps participants identify which trade best suits their interests and strengths, setting them on a focused career path.
The training covers four key areas:
- Bricklaying Techniques: Mastering skills such as cutting, rolling, returning corners, and building small cavity walls (3 days).
- Joinery Skills: Learning to use basic hand tools, create joints, and construct a small gate (3 days).
- Electrical Safety & Practical Skills: Performing safe isolation procedures, and replacing sockets, light fittings, and plugs (1 day).
- Plumbing Maintenance: Handling tasks such as isolating cold-water systems, replacing taps, and changing washers (1 day).

This course provides essential knowledge for individuals aiming to support teaching and learning in educational settings. It covers key topics like classroom management, safeguarding, and effective communication. Combining theoretical learning with practical experience, participants will gain the confidence and competence to assist teachers and contribute positively to the learning environment. The course culminates in an assessment to achieve the nationally recognised NCFE Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning.

This Skills Bootcamp training will expand and enhance the digital creative marketing offer in Calderdale and acting as a catalyst to support the bigger ambitions of creating a million more creative jobs by 2030. Training will be undertaken at Calderdale College’s state of the art Mills Studio’s at Dean Clough, pioneering all the latest technology to aid digital training.
Overview
This course will cover the foundational skills required to thrive as a creative digital marketing champion, focusing on both technical and creative aspects. It will include hands-on practical training through project and research-based assignments, industry-relevant tools and technologies, and business skills that will enhance employability. Training will include:

• Content creation basics
• Understanding your audience

• Social media tools and analytics
• Visual content and design
• Advertising on social media

This 8-week Skills Bootcamp offers an immersive introduction to welding and metal fabrication. Participants will gain foundational skills in MIG, TIG, and MMA welding, combining theoretical lessons with practical, hands-on learning. This course is ideal for those new to welding or employees beginning to apply welding principles at work. The programme runs on Fridays, totalling 60 guided learning hours.
Please note the following requirements:
- Safety Boots and Overalls are mandatoryfor entry into the workshop and must be provided by the learner
- Welding Screens and Gloves will be provided by Calderdale College
The Skills Bootcamp aims to equip learners with valuable, transferable skills that will support their career progression in the fabrication and welding industry.

This course is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, and skills to effectively lead and implement process improvement projects or programs using the Lean principles, methods, and tools. Our Lean Leader course shall cover the intermediate Lean concepts, tools, and techniques for identifying, reducing, or eliminating causes of process irregularities, overburden to employees, and process wastes.
By the end of the course, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the different Lean concepts and tools as applied in a project and implement these in a process to improve operational performance or utilise these and lead cross-functional Lean projects and programmes with the goal of improving overall business performance.
